Katherine  Pierce is a CPA and chief financial officer of an environmental consulting firm.  In her off hours she is busy capturing God's colorful beauty with her digital cameras.  The result is a rich collection of ocean sunrises, close-ups of  great blue herons, egrets, pelicans, exotic birds, gators in the swamp, colorful skies behind palms or sea oats, and a massive collection of brilliant butterflies and  flowers to delight those who can't grow their own.   She also shares her view of far away places such as Kenya,  Rwanda, and Botswana in Africa, Cape Churchill and Watchee in Manitoba, Canada, China, Japan, Antarctica, Iceland, India, and even Alaska.  These travels provide her collectors with added variety, ranging from magnificent big cats to strikingly beautiful polar bears and everyone's favorite penguins as seen in "March Of the Penguins" and "Happy Feet".
Her photographs are richly printed on archival paper using an Epson Stylus Pro 7800 wide format printer with ultra chrome inks.   She also takes certain of her photographs and inverts the colors before printing them on watercolor paper or canvas, which gives them the appearance of a painting (check out Krazy Kolors page).  She captures these images using a Canon 7D digital SLR camera and the super fast Canon EOS1D Mark III and Canon EOS1D Mark IV.

Pierce carries a heavy camera bag.  Included in this bag are the following Canon lenses - 500 f4L IS, 400 f4 DO IS, 300 f2.8L IS, 70-200 f2.8LII IS,  28-300 f3.5-5.6L IS, 24-105 f4L IS, 17-40 f4L, 180 f3.5L, and a 15 f2.8 fisheye.  When needed she uses a Gitzo 3540LS tripod, a Gitzo GM5561T monopod with big foot, and a Canon 580EX flash.

Pierce traveled on a spectacular adventure to Antarctica where she lived on a Russian ice breaker and flew by helicopter to an emperor penguin colony, following  the trip depicted in the National Geographic movie March of the Penguins.  She also traveled to Rwanda where she hiked for hours in the mountainous jungles to photograph the rare and endangered mountain gorilla (only 750 left).  Her photographs of the endangered giant pandas in China (only 1390 left including zoo pandas) capture their whimsical antics.  Baby polar bears enjoyed their first day out of the den in front of Pierce's camera.  Her recent trip to Bandhavgarh, India for the endangered and elusive royal bengal tiger was very productive.  Her most recent trips were to Alaska with grizzlies and the Pantanal where she was lucky enough to have 7 jaguar sightings and beautiful macaws in flight.

Pierce is a member of the National Wildlife Foundation.
